Volunteering at Ingamo Family Homes
Ingamo Family Homes would not survive without its dedicated crew of volunteers. The duties of a volunteer are many and varied, and can range from fundraising, to drivers needed for transportation to appointments or for picking up donations, to being a board member, to assisting with fundraisers and other events.
Ingamo Family Homes believes that volunteers are a fundamental component of the services offered to abused women and their children. Volunteers complement the existing services and enable the programs to provide intensive support to women. Involvement of volunteers increases community participation and community awareness about violence against women.
Anyone wanting to volunteer anywhere within the Ingamo Family Homes organization must have:
- A women and children-positive attitude
- Be 18 years or older and female
- Complete a Criminal Reference Check
- Have the ability to understand and maintain confidentiality

Michael Stoop Memorial Fund

The Michael Stoop Memorial Fund has already made a difference in the lives of children at Ingamo Family Homes. Monies from the fund enabled four youngsters residing at Ingamo to take part in special interest activities they would not otherwise have been able to afford this past year. Those activities included: participation in organized soccer, taking singing lessons and attending summer camp offered by the YMCA. This special fund was established in memory of Michael Stoop in August, 2007. Michael was the son of Suzanne and Neil Stoop of Salford, Ontario. Suzanne was an Ingamo Family Homes board member at the time of Michael’s accidental death in July, 2007. Michael was 19 years of age and a highly respected, energetic young man who shared his many talents and interest with his community. The purpose of the memorial fund is to sustain his example by providing opportunities for young people to pursue a talent and/or participate in their chosen activities.
The memorial fund is comprised of $18,000 currently invested in a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC). An additional $11, 663 – proceeds from the fund’s portion of the 2008 silent auction, combined with individual and corporate donations – will be added to the fund, bringing the total invested to $29,663.
